Edward VI Fine Silver Sixpence (1551–1553)
A sixpence of our Royal Founder, King Edward VI, from the 'fine' silver issue of 1551–1553, struck at about 92.5% silver after the debased coinage of Henry VIII. Obverse: crowned facing bust of the young king, Tudor rose to the left and VI to the right; legend EDWARD VI D G AGL FRA Z HIB REX. Reverse: royal shield over a long cross fourchée; legend POSVI DEVM ADIVTOREM MEVM ('I have made God my helper'). The sixpence was a new denomination and among the first English coins to show their value. Condition around Good Fine, with an attractive, clear portrait. Baldwin's have indicated a value of £200–£400.
